The makers of WordPress, Automattic, have always had this really cool avatar program call Gravatar.  This online service allows users to register and associate a profile and photo to an email address thus, according to the website, creating a “globally recognized avatar”.  Today, a lot of WordPress themes – including this site’s Genesis Theme – use Gravatar to pull the author’s profile and other relevant information for readers. It’s a great way to save some hassle and help share your information on the social web.

The WordCamp Chicago website is connecting attendees with the help of their Gravatar profiles.

After registering for WordCamp Chicago, I didn’t realize that Gravatar now allows users to associate whole bunch of new profile features including contact information, website and social profile links. I would advise WordCamp Chicago attendees to make sure you’re profile is up-to-date and add a few links to your websites to take advantage of what could possibly become some valuable SEO traffic.  Heck, it would be cool if you could link to this site,

As for the conference, the Gravatar integration, is really a great way for attendees to connect and creating a better overall conference experience.  Plus, we want to see your pretty face, not that crazy “Mystery Man” photo!  Just keep in mind, the Gravatar is associated with the email address you used to register for WordCamp Chicago.
